Online Soft Starter

The online soft starter is a motor start and control device that is connected in series to the main circuit of the motor. Unlike the bypass type soft starter which stops operating after the start-up is completed, this product continuously participates in the operation throughout the entire process of motor start-up, operation, and shutdown, and assumes the functions of current regulation, operation protection and monitoring.

Service Environment

The online soft starter has specific requirements for the operating environment. Its core lies in the need to be continuously connected in series in the main circuit of the motor, so it must be installed in an indoor electrical environment that is clean, dry, and well-ventilated.
Specifically, the environmental temperature should be controlled within the range of 0-40℃ without condensation. At the same time, it must avoid contamination from conductive dust, corrosive gases, and oil.
During installation, it is necessary to ensure vertical fixation and reserve sufficient cooling space. The power supply should be stable and the grounding should be reliable.
Since it needs to handle the load current and generate heat throughout the motor's operation, the requirements for continuous cooling conditions and environmental cleanliness are more stringent than those of the bypass type.
Daily monitoring of its temperature rise and operating status by professionals is required, and regular maintenance such as cleaning and tightening connections should be carried out to ensure its long-term stable soft start and operation protection functions in the industrial site.

Application Scenario

The core application scenarios of online soft starters focus on addressing the challenges that traditional soft starters cannot handle during the entire operation cycle of motors. In heavy industries (such as large fans and ball mills), they not only enable ultra-smooth starting for up to several tens of seconds to eliminate mechanical shocks, but also dynamically limit torque and current during operation to resist load changes and avoid overload tripping.
For continuous production processes (such as constant pressure water supply and material transportation), online soft starters achieve precise constant pressure and constant current control through built-in PID functions and can achieve master-slave synchronization and power balance in multi-motor systems.
In frequent start-stop and harsh environments (such as mines and port machinery), the all-solid-state, contactless design of the products can withstand dust and vibration, can withstand tens of operations per hour, and provides full electrical protection throughout the process.
Furthermore, in ships with limited power capacity and old power grids, they can strictly limit the starting current within the set value to prevent voltage drops and ensure grid stability.

Soft Start Mode

Slope-uphill voltage boosting soft start: This is the simplest start-up method. By adjusting the conduction angle of the thyristor, the voltage gradually increases over time. Although the operation is simple, since there is no current limiting, it may cause a large impact current, which has a significant influence on the power grid and equipment. Therefore, it is rarely used in practical applications.
Step start: When the online soft starter is powered on, the starting current rapidly reaches the set value. By adjusting the preset value of the starting current, an efficient start-up effect can be achieved. This method is particularly suitable for occasions with strict requirements for start-up time.
Slope constant current soft start: In the initial stage of start-up, the current gradually increases and remains constant after reaching the preset value until the start-up is completed. This method is widely used in the start-up of fans and pumps, which can effectively reduce the impact current during start-up and protect the equipment.
Pulse impact start: In the initial stage of start-up, the thyristor conducts at a large current for a period of time and then drops back, then rises linearly to the original set value, and finally enters constant current start-up. This method is suitable for occasions where a large static friction needs to be overcome, but it is rarely used in general loads.
Dual slope voltage start-up: During the start-up process, the output torque of the motor increases with the increase of voltage, providing the initial start-up voltage. When the motor reaches the rated speed, the output voltage reaches the rated voltage. This method can effectively reduce the impact current during start-up.
Current limiting start-up: During the start-up process, the current is limited to not exceed a certain set value to ensure the safety of the motor and the power grid. This method is suitable for occasions with strict requirements for start-up current.
