The BK 220V single phase transformer is a classic and widely-used isolation-type control transformer. Introduction to the Principle
The BK220V single phase transformer can change both the magnitude of the alternating voltage and the magnitude of the alternating current.
(1) The "transforming" function of the transformer can either increase or decrease the alternating voltage. Ignoring the loss of electrical energy, the relationship between the primary voltage U1, secondary voltage U2, the number of turns in the primary winding N1, and the number of turns in the secondary winding N2 is as follows:
U1/U2=N1/N2=n
It is called the turns ratio or voltage ratio. From the above equation, we can see:
① When the number of turns of the secondary winding N2 is greater than that of the primary winding N1, the secondary voltage U2 will be higher than the primary voltage U1. That is, when n = N1/N2 < 1, the transformer can increase the alternating voltage, so a transformer with a voltage ratio of n < 1 is called a step-up transformer.
② When the number of turns of the secondary winding N2 is less than that of the primary winding N1, the transformer can reduce the alternating voltage. Therefore, when n > 1, the transformer is called a step-down transformer.
③ When the number of turns of the secondary winding N2 is equal to that of the primary winding N1, the transformer does not change the magnitude of the alternating voltage, that is, the primary voltage U1 is equal to the secondary voltage U2. Although this type of transformer cannot change the voltage magnitude, it can electrically isolate the primary and secondary circuits, so a transformer with n = 1 is commonly used as an isolation transformer.
(2) "Current Transformation" Function
A transformer not only can change the magnitude of the alternating voltage, but also can change the magnitude of the alternating current. Since the transformer has very little energy loss and can be ignored, the input power P1 and the output power P2 of the transformer are equal, that is: P1=P2

From the above equation, it can be seen that the primary and secondary voltages of the transformer are inversely proportional to the primary and secondary currents. If the secondary voltage is increased, the secondary current will decrease, and if the secondary voltage is reduced, the secondary current will increase. In summary, for a transformer, the more turns in the coil, the higher the voltage at both ends, and the smaller the current flowing through it. For example, on a certain power transformer, it is marked that "input voltage 220V, output voltage 6V". Then the ratio of the number of turns of the primary and secondary windings of this transformer is n = 220/6 = 110/3 = 37. When this transformer is connected to the circuit, the current flowing out of the secondary winding is 37 times that flowing into the primary winding.
